WASHINGTON, May 29, 2014 – The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced University at Albany attackman Lyle Thompson, University at Albany attackman Miles Thompson, and University of Maryland midfielder Taylor Cummings as the winners of the 14th annual Tewaaraton Award, presented Thursday at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and top female college lacrosse players in the United States.

WASHINGTON, February 20 – The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced that Panama Jack will sponsor the Tewaaraton Award Watch Lists for a third year. Pannell and Schwarzmann Named 2013 Tewaaraton Award Winners

The five men’s finalists are University of North Carolina attackman Marcus Holman, Syracuse University midfielder JoJo Marasco, Cornell University attackman Rob Pannell, Princeton University midfielder Tom Schreiber and University at Albany attackman Lyle Thompson.

The five women’s finalists are University of Maryland attacker Alex Aust, University of North Carolina midfielder Kara Cannizzaro, Syracuse University attacker Alyssa Murray, University of Florida goalie Mikey Meagher and University of Maryland midfielder Katie Schwarzmann.

2012 TEWAARATON OUTSTANDING NATIVE AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIP PRESENTED BY US LACROSSE

WASHINGTON, February 24, 2012 – The Tewaaraton Foundation is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for the annual Tewaaraton Outstanding Native American Scholarship, presented by US Lacrosse. Awarded to one male and one female each year, the scholarship honors high school students of Iroquois heritage who exemplify high character, leadership, and academics both on and off the lacrosse field. Applicants are requested to submit an essay describing what the sport of lacrosse means to them as a Native American as well as two letters of recommendation and a high school transcript.

Television Coverage for the 2011 Tewaaraton Award

Washington, D.C. – The 11th annual Tewaaraton Award, presented by U.S. Lacrosse and hosted by the Greater Washington Sports Alliance, will be aired on CBS Saturday, June 11th from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. The broadcast will be a recap of the June 2nd ceremony at the Warner Theatre, including the presentation of the two Native American high school scholarship winners, the first annual Tewaaraton Legend Award, and the Tewaaraton Award to the male and female recipients. The broadcast will feature a sit down interview with Jim Brown, recipient of the Tewaaraton Legend Award.

The Greater Washington Sports Alliance Announces the Baltimore/Washington All-Tewaaraton High School Boys and Girls Teams presented by Toyota

Washington, D.C. – The 2010 Baltimore/Washington All-Tewaaraton High School Boys and Girls Teams have been announced by the Greater Washington Sports Alliance. Now in its 7th year, the All-Tewaaraton teams are comprised of boys and girls from the Baltimore/Washington Region who have been assessed for their performance on the field by two Selection Committees comprised of high school coaches in the Baltimore/Washington region.

Award Celebrates Ten Year Anniversary on June 3rd

Washington, D.C. – The Greater Washington Sports Alliance and the University Club of Washington, DC are proud to announce the 2010 Men’s and Women’s Tewaaraton Finalists. The Tewaaraton Award is presented to the most outstanding men’s and women’s collegiate lacrosse player as determined by two selection committees, consisting of collegiate coaches throughout all divisions of the sport.

The selection process began with a list of over 100 of the nation’s top men’s and women’s collegiate players, which was then narrowed down to selective list of fewer than 50. Of these, ten have been named as finalists, five men and five women, in which only two will be able to walk away with the sport’s top honor.

5th Annual Tewaaraton Outstanding Native American Scholarship Announced

Washington, D.C. – Over the past four years, The Tewaaraton Award has proudly given over $40,000 in scholarships to Native American high school lacrosse players through its Tewaaraton Outstanding Native American Scholarship Program. These $5,000 scholarships are awarded annually on a highly competitive basis to one Native American female and one Native American male lacrosse player. All awards are not only based on the student’s athletic performance, but also on their merit, academic achievement and ambition.

The Greater Washington Sports Alliance Announces the 7th Annual Baltimore/Washington High School Watch List

Washington, D.C. – For the past seven years, The Tewaaraton Award has proudly named a High School All-Tewaaraton Team, presented by Toyota, comprised of men and women from the Baltimore/Washington Region. The watch list nominees are screened and selected by Selection Committees comprised of regional high school coaches. Between now and the June 3rd Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, these students are assessed for their performance on the field. At the end of May, a team of 12 men and 12 women are invited to attend the Tewaaraton Banquet and they are presented with the High School All-Tewaaraton Team plaque.

The Sports Alliance Awarded License for Tewaaraton Award
Collegiate lacrosse’s highest honor will be presented at the Native American Museum

Washington, D.C. – Today the Greater Washington Sports Alliance announced a five year license agreement to host the Tewaaraton Awards. The Tewaaraton Award is the pre-eminent lacrosse award, which is annually awarded to the NCAA men’s and women’s lacrosse player of the year. The award will be presented on June 3rd, 2010 at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. The National Museum of the American Indian is the sixteenth Smithsonian Institution, and the first national museum which is dedicated to the preservation, study, and exhibition of life, languages, literature, and arts of Native Americans.
